A magical introduction to classical music

Members of Guelph Symphony Orchestra perform kid-friendly performances of Sorcerer’s Apprentice at River Run Centre, February 2

GUELPH, ON January 18, 2019 – Experience a magical introduction to classical music for kids when members of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra perform Sorcerer’s Apprentice at River Run Centre on Saturday, February 2, at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The performances are presented in Co-operators Hall as part of the Wooly Kinderconcerts series.

Wooly Kinderconcerts introduce children aged five and under to the rich variety of instruments and sounds of the symphony. Members of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra play samplings of works by great composers, which provide the soundtrack to fun, interactive stories. Kinderconcerts are hands-on experiences kids learn from and remember, with audience participation highly encouraged.

In Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a powerful wizard’s young apprentice attempts to use magic to get through his chores, but his broom comes to life and chaos ensues! Set to a score by French composer Paul Dukas, Sorcerer’s Apprentice includes oboe, bassoon, trumpet, clarinet and viola. The performance explores the concepts of musical dynamics from soft to loud.

Tickets to see Sorcerer’s Apprentice cost $15 for adults, $13 for students and seniors, and $11 for children 14 and under. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID. Please note that everyone attending this performance must have a ticket, including infants and children.
