Star of television, film and stand-up performs at River Run Centre April 27

GUELPH, ON April 12, 2018 – Spend an evening with a titan of comedy when Roseanne Barr brings her hilarious stand-up act to River Run Centre on Friday, April 27, at 8 p.m. The Main Stage performance is presented as part of the GuelphToday.com Comedy Series.

From acclaimed stand-up performances, film appearances and best-selling books to her award-winning work during nine seasons on the hit sitcom Roseanne, Barr has unquestionably become one of the world’s best-known entertainers. “Her greatest asset is her gravitational pull,” the New York Times says of Barr. “It is the power of a whole planet, pulling everything around it inexorably into its orbit.”

Barr began her rise to international comedy fame on the stand-up stage, turning her experiences as a wife and mother into an act audiences couldn’t resist. She later created, produced and starred in the hit ABC sitcom Roseanne, which averaged a staggering 30 million viewers each week. Barr’s portrayal of Roseanne Conner on the show earned her an Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award and prestigious Peabody Award, as well as multiple American Comedy Awards.

A versatile comedian, Barr also hosted her own talk show, The Roseanne Show, which earned her a Daytime Emmy Award nomination as outstanding talk show host. In 2014, she became a judge on NBC’s long-running series Last Comic Standing. Barr’s big-screen credits include the films She Devil, Freddy’s Dead, Blue in the Face and Meet Wally Sparks. She also voiced characters in the films Look Who’s Talking Too and Home on the Range.

Barr’s impressive resume includes authoring three books, Roseanne: My Life as a Woman, My Lives, and Roseannearchy: Dispatches from the Nut Farm. Her stand-up performance at River Run Centre will prove why she continues to amaze both audiences and critics alike.

Opening for Barr will be British comedian and the voice of Gizzardgulper in Steven Spielbergs’ film The BFG, Chris Gibbs. Famous for his “combination of dry wit and barely controlled madness” according to CBC, Gibbs has travelled across Canada since 2002 performing self-written one man shows such as Like Father, Like Son? Sorry and A Legal Alien. Aside from his belly-busting stand-up sets Gibbs has also written two plays based on Victorian London’s most overlooked detective Not Quite Sherlock and its sequel The Further Adventures of Antoine Feval as well as the spoof motivational seminar The Power of Ignorance.
