Andrew Collins Trio brings award-winning brand of traditional music to River Run Centre Friday, November 24
GUELPH, ON November 9, 2017 – Andrew Collins and his trio find themselves at the centre of a burgeoning Canadian acoustic music scene. They will bring their award-winning brand of traditional and bluegrass music to River Run Centre when the Andrew Collins Trio performs on Friday, November 24, at 8 p.m. The Co-operators Hall performance is presented as part of the Borealis Music Series; celebrating the strength and diversity of Canadian musicians.
A prolific composer, performer and multi-instrumentalist, Collins’ music is inspired by bluegrass, jazz, swing, blues, Celtic and classical traditions. His inspired playing on instruments including mandolin, mandola, mandocello, guitar and fiddle make for memorable, must-see performances.
“A mandolin master,” the Edmonton Journal said of Collins. “Bluegrass-jazz fusion with a heavenly vibe.”
Following a series of successful solo and collaborative projects, Collins is currently fronting the Andrew Collins Trio, which includes talented multi-instrumentalist Mike Mezzatesta on the mandolin family of instruments, guitar and fiddle, and James Mceleney on upright bass. The trio’s debut recording, 2013’s A Play on Words, earned it a Canadian Folk Music Award as Instrumental Group of the Year.
“We’ve put a lot of thought and energy into creating our show,” Collins says. “We try to take the listener through an experience… where one tune informs the other.”
As well as his work as a solo artist – which has earned him a Juno Award nomination and a win as Central Canada Bluegrass Association Mandolin Player of the Year – Collins has founded some of Canada’s most celebrated string bands. His two longest-standing projects, the Creaking Tree String Quartet and Foggy Hogtown Boys, bring together some of the nation’s most talented acoustic musicians.
We would like to acknowledge funding support from the Ontario Arts Council, an agency of the Government of Ontario.
