Celebrated Canadian singer-songwriter performs at River Run Centre Saturday, October 13

GUELPH, ON September 28, 2018 – Canadian singer-songwriter Serena Ryder has grown an avid international fan base on the strength of hit songs including What I Wouldn’t Do, Stompa and Got Your Number. The six-time Juno Award winner will bring her unique folk-rock sound to the stage as part of an intimate acoustic performance at River Run Centre on Saturday, October 13, at 8 p.m. The Main Stage performance is presented as part of the Richardson GMP Music Series to a close to sold out house.

Ryder has won many accolades since releasing her first studio album, Falling Out, in 1999. They include Juno Awards as songwriter of the year and artist of the year, as well as a Canadian Film Award for best original song. Ryder’s six studio albums include 2005’s Unlikely Emergency, 2008’s Is It O.K. and the 2012 platinum-selling album Harmony.

“Her music makes one feel like life is one big peaceful picnic,” the Vernon Morning Star says of Ryder’s live performances.

Ryder’s latest release, Utopia, builds upon her impressive body of work with music exuding the confidence of a seasoned performer. An overriding theme of the recording is derived from the Indigenous parable of the Two Wolves – one representing our light side and the other our dark side – that fight for dominance as they are fed in either direction.

“I found in a lot of the songs there was that dynamic when I looked back,” Ryder says. “So many people, when they put out a record, it’s all dark or it’s all light and happy. But on this record there’s a lot of juxtaposition of both those things – the light and the dark. I was wondering, ‘What if you married the two?’ I wanted to write an album that had some sense of balance.”

Tickets to see Serena Ryder cost $69 for adults, $67 for seniors and students. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID. Tickets can be purchased at River Run Centre box office, 35 Woolwich St. in Guelph, by calling 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca/serena-ryder.
