Canadian country legend performs October 4 as part of River Run Centre’s 20th anniversary celebration

GUELPH, ON September 20, 2017 – Canadian country music legend Carroll Baker will help River Run Centre return to where it all began when she performs as part of the centre’s 20th anniversary celebration on Wednesday, October 4, at 7 p.m. The Main Stage performance is presented by River Run Centre and includes a VIP experience post-show anniversary event in Canada Company Hall.

Renowned as Canada’s “First Lady Of Country Music,” Baker has travelled the world during a more than 40-year career. In 1997, she performed as part of River Run Centre’s opening night gala. The Guelph resident will return to the River Run stage to showcase her talents as part of the milestone anniversary.

“I am so honoured to be doing this performance. To return to celebrate 20 years is a bit like returning home for me,” Baker says. “I was one of the performers who opened the River Run Centre 20 years ago. It seems like it was only yesterday. Guelph is fortunate to have such a great venue. What an incredible year this is, 20 years for the River Run Centre and 150 years for Canada…to be a part of all this is such an incredible honour.”

A global ambassador of Canadian country music, Baker is a member of the Order of Canada and recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Her many successes and accolades include more than 20 No. 1 records, numerous Juno and Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) awards and induction into the CCMA Hall of Fame. After four decades of performing and recording, her honest and emotional music continues to make her one of the most enduring female country singers in Canada.

“I simply hope that people enjoy what I do,” Baker says. “If they go to my concerts, I hope that the time they spend there takes them away from their troubles. I hope they feel good. I want to touch them on an emotional and honest level. I try to be honest and if my music is delivered with that same honesty that makes me happy.”

During her River Run Centre performance, Baker will be joined on stage by her band, Baker Street, as well as her daughter Candace, granddaughter Jordan and members of Guelph’s Emotion Dance Company. She says being a resident of Guelph makes performing as part of River Run Centre’s 20th anniversary all the more meaningful.

“Guelph is home,” Baker says. “It’s the place I long to return to when I come home from a tour, or even from a holiday.”
