Just for Laughs Road Show rolls into River Run Centre

Phil Hanley hosts evening of comedy featuring standup favourites Tone Bell, Sara Schaefer and Steve Simeone April 5

GUELPH, ON March 22, 2018 – Expect an evening of laugh-a-minute entertainment when the Just for Laughs Road Show arrives at River Run Centre on Thursday, April 5, at 8 p.m. The Main Stage performance featuring comedians Phil Hanley, Tone Bell, Sara Schaefer and Steve Simeone is presented as part of the GuelphToday.com Comedy Series.

The Just for Laughs Road Show offers an evening of funny business featuring outstanding standup comedians from the world-renowned Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, which welcomes two million visitors each summer. In its 15th year touring Ontario, the Just for Laughs Road Show offers the perfect way to sample some of the festival’s funniest standup acts.

The evening’s host, Phil Hanley, began his standup career performing at open mic nights in Vancouver. Since settling in the U.S., Hanley has become a regular at New York City’s renowned Comedy Cellar and appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Hanley’s Comedy Central standup special, The Half Hour, aired in 2016 and he played the lead role in the 2017 comedy film Sundowners.

Actor-comedian Tone Bell can be seen starring opposite Kathy Bates on the Netflix original comedy series Disjointed, which has seen him win critical acclaim for his portrayal of Carter, an Iraq war veteran suffering from PTSD who discovers the healing power of cannabis. Previously, Bell starred in the comedy series Truth Be Told, Bad Judge and Whitney. An accomplished standup, Bell’s half-hour comedy special can currently be seen on Comedy Central.

Sara Schaefer is a critically acclaimed standup comedian, writer and producer currently based in Los Angeles. Schaefer has appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show, Inside Amy Schumer and recently co-hosted the late night MTV program Nikki & Sara Live. She won two Emmy Awards for her work on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and has also written for the television program Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Steve Simeone developed his high-energy approach to storytelling by competing for laughs with his two brothers around the family dinner table. His positive, family-friendly approach to comedy has delighted audiences around the world and made him a regular at Hollywood’s most prestigious comedy clubs including The Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv and Laugh Factory.

Tickets to see the Just for Laughs Road Show cost $52 for adults, $50 for seniors and students. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID.
