Angelic, youthful ensemble performs at River Run Centre Sunday, March 12

GUELPH, ON February 24, 2017 – With a history dating to the 15th century, the Vienna Boys Choir has stood the test of time. The choir will write another chapter in its rich story during a performance at River Run Centre on Sunday, March 12, at 2 p.m. The Main Stage performance is presented as part of the RBC Showcase Series.

Featuring youthful energy, angelic voices and spectacular musicality, the Vienna Boys Choir is recognized as one of the finest vocal ensembles in the world. Established at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel in 1498 by Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I, the choir is renowned for both its storied past and moving present-day performances.

Today’s Vienna Boys Choir choir represents a departure from the original six-member medieval singing group. The modern-day choir is comprised of more than 100 choristers aged 10 to 14 from around the world, who form four separate ensembles. The choir performs for almost half a million people each year and its diverse repertoire includes medieval, contemporary and experimental music.

“The audience was taken on a musical journey that spanned the centuries and covered the globe during a diverse evening of classical, folk and contemporary music,” the Southwest Booster said in a review of the Vienna Boys Choir.

During recent years, the choir has shared the stage with the Vienna Philharmonic, London Philharmonic and Oslo Philharmonic orchestras, as well as taken part in opera performances at the Salzburg Festival and Vienna State Opera. As part of its global travels, the choir frequently visits North America, performing at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall in New York and Symphony Hall in Chicago. As it has done since 1498, the Vienna Boys Choir continues to provide music for Sunday mass at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel.

Tickets to see the Vienna Boys Choir cost $50 for adults, $48 for seniors and students and $29 for children 14 and under. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID.
