    Pre-show Information for Teachers

The tales in two award-winning storybooks come together on stage in Guess How Much I Love You and I Love My Little Storybook. Children will share in the unique friendship between two rabbit friends while gaining an appreciation for the magic of reading in a production that brings music, movement and imagination together.

Founded in 1972, Canada’s Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia is renowned for their charming stage adaptations of beloved classics of children’s literature, featuring innovative puppetry, striking scenic effects, evocative original music and gentle storytelling. Their productions have played to well over two million people in 13 countries in North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

    Questions/ Suggested Discussion Points

    1. What are the two different kinds of puppets used in this show? (‘rod’ puppets and more traditional ‘table-top’ puppets)
    2. How do the puppets glow? Why can’t you see the actors moving the puppets? (Black lights make fluorescent things glow in the dark, while making black and dark objects nearly invisible.)

Sometimes the puppets need two actors to move. Sometimes actors moved the scenery. Look for these things during the performance
