Famed musician and author talks about life in the arts at River Run Centre

GUELPH, ON March 6, 2019 – Musician and author Ian Thomas rose to fame with his 1973 hit Painted Ladies and has enjoyed an illustrious career, winning a Juno award, four SOCAN awards and the prestigious UNICEF Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award. The internationally acclaimed songwriter will discuss his life and career as part of River Run Centre’s Miijidaa Life Stories speaker series on Wednesday, March 20 at 8 p.m.

During this Co-operators Hall presentation, Thomas discusses his more than four-decade career, from winning the 1974 Juno Award as Most Promising Male Vocalist of the Year to penning songs performed by artists including Santana, America, Chicago, Bette Midler and Anne Murray. A Life in Song is also the title of Thomas’ most-recent recording, which revisits some of his most popular songs through dramatic orchestral re-interpretations.

“Ian is a prolific songwriter with a significant body of work and is truly a national treasure,” the Toronto Star said of Thomas.

Thomas also records and tours with Murray McLauchlan, Marc Jordan and Cindy Church in the band Lunch At Allen’s. In addition to his work as a musician, Thomas is the author of the novels Bequest (2006) and The Lost Chord (2008).
