Iconic star of standup comedy, television and film performs at River Run Centre February 8

GUELPH, ON January 25, 2018 – One of the world’s most recognized and adored comedians will take the stage when Louie Anderson brings his hilarious standup act to River Run Centre on Thursday, February 8, at 8 p.m. The Main Stage performance is presented as part of the GuelphToday.com Comedy Series.

During a career spanning more than 30 years, Anderson has starred in standup specials and sitcoms, become a best-selling author and performed around the world, always delivering his comedy with a characteristic warmth and wit.

Anderson currently co-stars alongside Zach Galifianakis and Martha Kelly in the hit FX comedy series Baskets, which recently made its third-season premiere. The show features Anderson playing the role of Christine, the matriarch of the Baskets clan and a character he based on his mother and five sisters. Anderson’s role as Christine won him an Emmy Award as outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series in 2016.

“Anderson remains a dedicated craftsman,” the Minneapolis Star Tribune said in a review.

A three-time Emmy winner, Anderson made his first national television appearance on the The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1984. He continued to grow his reputation on programs including Late Night with David Letterman and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno before becoming a household name as host of the legendary game show Family Feud.

Anderson’s many other credits include guest starring in the sitcom Grace Under Fire, as well as the television dramas Touched by an Angel and Chicago Hope. He also made memorable appearances in film comedies including Coming to America, where he performed opposite Eddie Murphy, and the classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

When not working on one of his many film and television projects, Anderson continues doing what he loves most: touring as a standup comedian.

Brooklyn-based comedian Matt Stofsky will open the show for Anderson. Stofsky has become well-known for hilarious performances at comedy festivals, clubs and college campuses across the U.S., as well as with his sketch comedy group, King Quail. Their finely honed routines are sure to inspire fits of laughter.
