Canadian icon Jimmy Rankin performs on Main Stage November 6

GUELPH, ON October 22, 2015 – Throughout a quarter century making music, songwriter Jimmy Rankin has never failed to impress with his vocal ability, thoughtful lyrics and dynamic stage presence. The Canadian icon will showcase his talents on River Run Centre’s Main Stage on Friday, November 6, at 8 p.m. as part of the Richardson GMP Music Series presented by River Run Centre.

While Rankin may be best known as a member of the Rankin Family band, he’s recently enjoyed newfound success as a solo country artist. Rankin’s latest record, Back Road Paradise, features the musician like you’ve never heard him before. Described by Rankin as “full-on” country, the album includes 12 new songs, including duets with Grammy winner Allison Krauss and Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy.

“It’s the progression to a full-fledged country record,” Rankin said of Back Road Paradise. “I wanted to take this a step further and go to town with those country instruments, like pedal steel, Dobro, banjo and fiddle. I really just wanted to jump in with both feet.”

On the strength of Back Road Paradise, Rankin’s recent tour featured sold-out shows from coast to coast and his hit single Cool Car received extensive radio play. Rankin’s latest success follows his time as a member of the internationally acclaimed Rankin Family band from Mabou, Nova Scotia. His first major composition, Fare Thee Well Love, was the title track of the group’s hit 1992 record. Twenty-five years after first joining his family’s band, he continues winning new fans across the nation.

“Rankin isn’t resting on his reputation as Can-folk royalty,” Mike Devlin of the Victoria Times Colonist newspaper wrote in a review. “If anything, the man behind…the many Rankin Family songs that defined the East Coast of Canada is working harder than ever.”

Tickets to see Jimmy Rankin start at $34 for adults and $32 for seniors. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID. Tickets can be purchased at River Run Centre box office, 35 Woolwich St. in Guelph, by calling 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca/jimmy-rankin.
