Lunch at Allen’s hailed as Canada’s musical powerhouse

November 14, 2014

Guelph, ON November 14 – Lunch at Allen’s is considered a musical powerhouse, comprised of four Canadian superstars: Murray McLauchlan, Cindy Church, Marc Jordan and Ian Thomas. This quartet of songwriting royalty will perform on the Main Stage at River Run Centre on Friday, November 28 at 8 p.m. as part of the Richardson GMP Music Series. To call their collective impact on popular music legendary seems an understatement. Individually the group’s members have written for or appeared on over 25 million albums.

The group’s unique name is taken from a restaurant in Toronto’s Danforth neighbourhood where Thomas and McLauchlan would meet for lunch. It was over a meal at Allen’s Restaurant that they hatched the idea of assembling a group. They approached Jordan and Church, discussed the idea – over lunch, of course – and christened the band after the place where the idea for their ensemble was first conceived.

The show Lunch at Allen’s takes audiences on a journey filled with humour and stories, familiar hits and some new material. The group refers to it as ‘an evening of music for the heart and for the soul’. Songs penned by these four musicians will be familiar to anyone who has tuned into a radio over the past two decades. They have composed hits for Chicago, Josh Groban, Bonnie Raitt, Santana, Cher, and Rod Stewart. Immediately recognizable will be hits such as McLauchlan’s “Farmers Song”, Jordan’s “Marina Del Rey” and Thomas’ “Painted Ladies” (just to name a few). Church’s incredible voice will be recognizable to all familiar with the music of Quartette and Great Western Orchestra. As The Beat Magazine aptly noted: “You would be hard pressed to find another Canadian ensemble with more collective depth of influence over Canada’s musical landscape than Lunch At Allen’s.”

Lunch at Allen’s has released four albums:  the self-titled debut in 2004; Catch The Moon in 2007; More Lunch at Allen’s in 2010; and a Christmas album, titled Zuzu’s Petals in 2012. Like the group’s live shows, these recordings blend well-known hits with new creations.

Tickets for this performance start at $34 for adults, and $32 for students and seniors. $5 eyeGO tickets are available for high school students with valid ID. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. Tickets are available at the River Run Box Office at 519-763-3000, or online at  riverrun.ca/lunch-at-allens/
