A powerhouse ensemble of world-class musicians

GUELPH, ON March 17, 2022 – When six exemplary jazz musicians, each a legend, come together for one night of music – it truly is the stars aligning. On Friday, April 1 at 8 p.m., the Canadian Jazz All-Stars take the stage for an incredible evening of world-class jazz.

The evening is presented by River Run Centre as part of the Guelph Infiniti Music Series. “It’s exciting to kick-off our musical return to the stage with a few back-to-back shows from this series,” says Bill Nuhn, City of Guelph Manager, Theatres and Civic Events. “Each of our series focuses on shows in a particular grouping. The Guelph Infiniti Music Series is exciting because it features some true legends of Canadian music.”

The all-star lineup on April 1 features Heather Bambrick, Guido Basso, Robi Botos, Mike Murley, Dave Young, and Guelph’s own Davide DiRenzo.

Heather Bambrick is a JUNO-nominated vocalist and has performed with some of the world’s finest musicians. Her vocal talent is internationally recognized and she brings home-grown Newfoundland charm and charismatic wit to live shows worldwide. Guido Basso also charms audiences with his warm personality, and his signature tone on the trumpet has earned him the reputation of one of the world’s most solid and artistic soloists. Basso has won multiple JUNOs and is named a member to the Order of Canada.

Hungarian-born Romani musician Robi Botos was raised in a musical family and began his artistic career as a child in Budapest. Since immigrating to Canada in 1998, he quickly became a highly regarded fixture on Canada’s musical scene. Today, he is a multi-award winner including the JUNOs and the National Jazz Awards and delivers dynamic live performances earning him international recognition. Another National Jazz Award recipient, Mike Murley is one of Canada’s most well-respected jazz artists. An engaging, lyrical saxophonist with passion and skill, Murley plays in various formations from duo to septet and is an educator with the University of Toronto Jazz Program.

Dave Young is one of Canada’s most celebrated jazz musicians. An outstanding bassist, arranger, and bandleader, he has been an integral part of some of the country’s most noteworthy ensembles, has won numerous awards including a JUNO and multiple National Jazz Awards, and is also named an Officer of the Order of Canada. Rounding out this powerhouse ensemble is Guelph native Davide DiRenzo, one of the most versatile and in-demand drummers in the country. He has performed and recorded extensively around the world with a wide range of artists including Tom Cochrane, Jacksoul, Cassandra Wilson, and Matt Dusk. DiRenzo’s kit has also earned him screen time as CTV’s house drummer on Canadian Idol and America’s Got Talent. He is a six-time JUNO Award winner and internationally sought after.

True champions in their own right, each member of this star-studded ensemble is enough to excite any Canadian jazz aficionado. Together on one stage, these all-stars are sure to deliver an unforgettable performance of the highest calibre.
