Dickens’ Christmas classic gets the DuffleBag Theatre treatment at River Run

November 28, 2014

Guelph, ON November 28, 2014 – A Christmas Carol, the classic tale of miser Ebenezer Scrooge (who is visited by three spirits on Christmas Eve and eventually transformed) will be given the DuffleBag Theatre treatment when it hits the Main Stage at River Run Centre on Sunday, December 14. The show, presented as part of the Guelph Mercury Family Series, begins at 2 p.m.

The DuffleBag Theatre company is known for its improv-infused interpretations of classic stories by masters like William Shakespeare, Alexandre Dumas, and, of course, Charles Dickens. The number one rule of any DuffleBag performance is to always expect the unexpected. Wacky props, crazy antics, and audience participation are fixtures with this troupe. The often-hilarious results of interaction between the cast and audience members who become part of the show result in a rollicking good time for all involved.

Established in 1992, DuffleBag Theatre began performing at the London International Children’s Festival in London, Ontario. Now, more than two decades later, the group stages over 600 shows a year in Canada, the US and around the world. The company specializes in bringing classic stories to life in a fun, innovative and memorable way. Critics, parents, teachers, and –most importantly – kids everywhere have hailed their performances. As a reviewer from the Daily Gleaner wrote, “In the hands of… DuffleBag Theatre, the Dickens classic is a riotous romp through the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future… The show leads to non-stop laughter.”

DuffleBag Theatre’s performances are fun for all ages, but are particularly ideal for school-aged children, from Junior Kindergarten through to Grade Eight.

Tickets start at $21 for adults and $17 for children. $5 eyeGO tickets are available for high school students with valid ID. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID.
