Enchantment under the sea with The Rainbow Fish

October 31, 2018

Award-winning Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia production staged at River Run Centre November 14

GUELPH, ON October 31, 2018 – Experience an underwater adventure to enchant the entire family when Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia swims into River Run Centre to perform The Rainbow Fish on Wednesday, November 14, at 6 p.m. The Main Stage production is presented as part of the Wooly Pub Family Series.

Featuring innovative puppetry, striking scenic effects and evocative original music, The Rainbow Fish tells the story of a dazzling fish who learns to share his most prized possession. The production is based on Marcus Pfister’s award-winning children’s stories The Rainbow Fish, Rainbow Fish Discovers the Deep Sea, and Rainbow Fish Opposites.

“Mermaid Theatre’s creative, visually striking productions make it seem as if the pages of storybooks have come to life right on the stage,” the Salina Post said in a review.

The Rainbow Fish is about a magnificent fish who shimmers in every colour of the rainbow. Other fish dream of owning one of his beautiful scales, but resentment ensues when he is unwilling to give even one away. Over time, The Rainbow Fish becomes the loneliest fish in the ocean, but his fortunes change after receiving some good advice from a clever octopus.

First published in 1992, Pfister’s The Rainbow Fish is considered a children’s literature classic. The Rainbow Fish series has been published in 50 languages and sold more than 30 million copies around the world.

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia provides young audiences an effortless introduction to the performing arts and the excitement of reading. The company has earned international acclaim for its unique interpretations of classic works including Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar; Leo Lionni’s Swimmy, Frederick, and Inch by Inch; and Sam McBratney’s Guess How Much I Love You.
