Antic-filled theatre production comes to River Run Centre on Saturday, February 20

GUELPH, ON February 4, 2016 – A feline friend like no other will entertain young and old alike when River Run Centre presents Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat on Saturday, February 20, at 2 p.m.

Based on the book by Dr. Seuss and originally produced by the National Theatre of Great Britain, The Cat in the Hat sees the famously mischievous top-hat wearing cat come to life on stage in a theatrical interpretation of the classic story. Adapted and originally directed by Katie Mitchell, the production sees a seemingly boring and rainy afternoon turned into a raucous day of fun and adventure for Sally and her brother when a surprise visitor arrives. From the moment the Cat in the Hat appears at their door, they know he’s the most mischievous feline they’ll ever meet.

“A talented cast, impressive direction and splendid creative elements,” said theatre reviewer Gil Benbrook. “This Cat is one that anyone would welcome into their house.”

Designed with kids in mind but fun for all ages, Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat puts a focus on literacy, imagination, physical comedy, rhyming and play. The production is presented by Childsplay, a professional non-profit theatre company that aims to instil a love of theatre in young audiences, creating an enduring awe, love and respect for the medium.

“As always, Childsplay creates a variety of winning special effects, wild set pieces, creative costumes and a bunch of other theatrical tricks that take young audiences on a magical journey and adventure,” theatre critic Chris Curcio said of the production.

Tickets to see Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat start at $21 for adults and $17 for children. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID.
