River Run Centre brings rising Canadian star to the stage

GUELPH, ON November 1, 2018 – Known for pouring his heart out on stages around the world, Scott Helman consistently wows both unsuspecting audiences and adoring fans with his performances. He promises to bring that chemistry to River Run Centre on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 8pm. The Main Stage performance is the second concert this season in the Magic Music Now series sponsored by Magic 106.

Since taking the music scene by storm with his debut EP Augusta in 2014, Scott Helman has been a singer songwriter to watch. His first single, Bungalow, went platinum and secured him two Juno Award nominations. In 2017 he released his first full length album Hôtel de Ville, earning him two more Juno Award nominations, including the coveted Songwriter of the Year, while his single PDA went platinum.

Helman is known for his songwriting chops—at just 23, Helman has come a long way from the talented 15-year-old that blew away executives in a Warner Music Canada board room. Signing a development deal with the company, he worked closely with Simon Wilcox and Thomas “Tawgs” Salter to refine his craft. “I’m a very lyric-based person,” Helman says. “I feel like that is where most of my art goes into.”

Don’t be fooled by his age. Helman has described himself as an “old soul,” with musical and lyrical touchstones that range from current guitar-driven pop to classic alternative rock. Described as having a sound that lands between Vance Joy and Jeff Buckly, Helman cites influences ranging from Bob Dylan and Neil Young to Arcade Fire and The Cure.

Tickets for Scott Helman are $39 for adults, $37 for seniors and students. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID.  Tickets can be purchased at the River Run Centre box office, 35 Woolwich St. in Guelph, by calling 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca/scott-helman.

Presented by River Run Centre, Scott Helman is part of the new Magic Music Now Series sponsored by Magic 106. River Run Centre is funded in part by the Government of Canada and gratefully acknowledges our 2018-2019 season sponsor, The Co-operators.
