Guitar virtuoso Jesse Cook performs on Main Stage Friday, December 11

GUELPH, ON November 27, 2015 – After two decades travelling the world, global guitar virtuoso Jesse Cook is finding musical inspiration close to home. Cook will share that inspiration when he performs on River Run Centre’s Main Stage on Friday, December 11, at 8 p.m. as part of the Richardson GMP Music Series.

A master in genres including flamenco, classical, rumba, world beat, pop, blues and jazz, Cook is well-known for international recordings created in exotic locations. But the 50-year-old performer kept things close to home for his ninth studio album, One World, conceived in his home studio and released earlier this year. He will feature songs from the album during his River Run Centre performance.

“Over the years, I’ve taken my music and tried to cross-pollinate it with music from different parts of the world,” Cook said. “On this record, it’s not really about going someplace. The idea is that there really is just ‘one world.’ If you pull your focus back far enough, you start to see all music as being branches of the same tree. They’re all connected to the same trunk.”

In creating One World, Cook incorporated technology into his music more than ever before. The result is the most distinctive sound in his vast and varied career. “I found myself interested in taking what I do and putting it in a more modern context,” Cook said. “I’ve leaned heavily on ancient instruments. But for this record, I put those instruments side-by-side with modern sounds — unabashedly so.”

Cook has earned 11 Juno Award nominations throughout his career and in 2001 took home the Best Global Album Juno for his recording Free Fall. While offering an exciting new sound, the Toronto-raised guitarist will feature his blazing technical prowess, in-the-moment honesty and trademark subtlety during his River Run Centre performance.

Tickets to see Jesse Cook start at $49 for adults and $47 for seniors. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID. Tickets can be purchased at River Run Centre box office, 35 Woolwich St. in Guelph, by calling 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca/jesse-cook.
