September 24, 2015

Comedian, America’s Got Talent star performs in Guelph October 8

GUELPH, ON September 24, 2015 – From a dare to try his luck onstage at the legendary Comedy Store in Los Angeles more than 30 years ago, Canadian comedian Howie Mandel has built a long-lasting career leaving audiences in stitches. Mandel will bring his unique brand of comedy to Guelph’s River Run Centre on Thursday, October 8, at 8 p.m. He will perform on the Main Stage as part of River Run’s Comedy Series.

Currently best known for his role on the NBC television program America’s Got Talent, where he serves as a judge alongside Howard Stern and Mel B, Mandel has proven his ability in a variety of mediums, including television, film, stage and the written word. During the early years of his career, he played the role of Dr. Wayne Fiscus on the Emmy Award-winning NBC drama St. Elsewhere, which helped make him a household name in the 1980s. Mandel’s success continued from there.

On the strength of his work as a standup comic, Mandel won the job as host of The Howie Mandel Show, a syndicated talk show, and he remains a favourite guest for daytime and late-night talk show hosts including Jimmy Fallon, Ellen DeGeneres and Jimmy Kimmel. His credits also include serving as creator and executive producer of the Emmy Award-nominated animated children’s series Bobby’s World, which appears in syndication in 65 countries. Mandel also served as host of the popular game show Deal or No Deal, which earned him an Emmy nomination.

Known for promoting positive views about mental health, Mandel in 2009 released his book Here’s the Deal: Don’t Touch Me, described as a frank, funny and no-holds-barred memoir revealing his ongoing struggle with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The book remained on the New York Times bestseller list for several consecutive weeks. Mandel performs as many as 200 concerts a year throughout North America, including his October 8 appearance at River Run Centre.

Veteran comedian John Mendoza will open the show. Performing for more than 30 years, Mendoza is well-known for his deadpan style of delivery. His credits include appearances on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson and The Late Show with David Letterman, as well as the television shows The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men and Dharma and Greg.
