Juno nominee Jenn Grant to play River Run Centre

February 13, 2015

Guelph, ON February 13, 2015 – When maritime songbird Jenn Grant comes to the River Run Centre on Friday, February 27, 2015 she’ll be about two weeks away from learning whether or not she will receive the Juno Awards for which she’s been nominated this year. Grant, whose CD Compostela garnered nominations for Adult Alternative Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, will play the centre’s intimate Co-operators Hall as part of the Borealis Music Series. The show starts at 8 p.m.

In 2005 Grant, who was born in PEI and raised in Nova Scotia, burst onto the scene with her debut EP. In 2006 she was named Best New Artist and Best Female Artist at the Nova Scotia Music Awards. Her career has continued to build momentum with the release additional albums and EPs. Her 2011 record, Honeymoon Punch was a long-listed nominee for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize, and was shortlisted for a Juno Award in the Adult Alternative Album of the Year category at the 2012 Juno Awards. She’s sustained great support from her home region, winning multiple East Coast Music Awards. She’s also received exposure coast-to-coast through the popular CBC television program, Heartland, which features her song Dreamer as its theme.

Grant’s newest offering, Compostela, translates to “Field of Stars” or “Star Field”, which comes from the legend that the dust of the pilgrims who walk the El Camino, make up the stars that form the Milky Way. The record’s title and moments of Spanish guitar influences belie the journey through which it was created, which began in 2012 in Barcelona. A ‘band of stars’ joined Grant on this album, with appearances throughout by a who’s who of music industry heavyweights including Sarah Harmer, Buck 65, Ron Sexmsith, Rose Cousins, Doug Paisley, Don Kerr, Kim Harris, Stewart Legere, Justin Rutledge, Rachel Sermanni and Grant’s producer for her 2009 release Echoes Jonathan Goldsmith.

“Music is the connector that binds us all,” says Grant. “To be able to create music, and share the power it can hold is one of life’s greatest gifts.” Grant says she is about to embark on a brand new journey with her best collection of songs to date with the release of Compostela, declaring, “the time is here and now, I’m over the moon.”
