Just for Laughs Road Show ready to give your funnybone a spring workout

April 2, 2015

Guelph, ON April 2, 2015 – After the winter we’ve all endured, who couldn’t use a laugh? The Just For Laughs Road Show is the perfect antidote to any seasonal blues that have been lingering. The traveling show, now in its 12th year, comes to River Run on Thursday, April 16 at 8 p.m. as part of the Guelph Infiniti Comedy Series. Select seats are still available for this Main Stage performance.

The Just for Laughs Road Show captures the spirit of the storied Montreal comedy festival of the same name and delivers it to audiences in communities across Canada. The Road Show features some of the JFL festival’s top acts. The River Run show, hosted by Debra Digiovanni, features Last Comic Standing, winner Alonzo Bodden, Canadian Comedy Award winner Mark Forward and British star Gina Yashere.

Debra DiGiovanni, a Toronto native and recent Los Angeles transplant, is currently a featured panelist on The Comedy Network’s Match Game and a frequent guest on CBC’s popular radio program The Debaters, the latter of which earned her a Canadian Comedy Award nomination for writing on the show. This Just for Laughs veteran was a regular contributor to MuchMusic’s Video On Trial series; a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing; has two Comedy Now! specials; released her first American special, Single Awkward Female, on Showtime in the last year. She is a Gemini Award winner, and a three-time Canadian Comedy Award winner for Best Female Comic.

Alonzo Bodden is an international headliner who has performed worldwide including Just for Laughs in Montreal; Just for Laughs Sydney; Ireland’s Kilkenny Comedy fest; Brighton Beach in the UK; and he’s entertained the troops everywhere from Iraq to Greenland. Introduced to America on NBCʼs Last Comic Standing, Alonzo was runner up on Season 2 and came back to win it all on Last Comic Standing Season 3, “The Best of the Best.” Since then he’s done a one-hour comedy special, Who’s Paying Attention? that premiered on Showtime, was a regular on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and a favorite guest on Adam Corollaʼs radio show and podcast.

Gina Yashere has been a stand-up and TV star in the UK for several years, with appearances on iconic TV shows such as Live At The Apollo, Chelsea Lately, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Live at Gotham to name but a few. She broke onto the American comedy scene with her appearances on Last Comic Standing, where she made it to the final 10.  She is also known in the US for her regular, hilarious appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, as Madame Yashere – The Surly Psychic. Gina’s bombastic delivery, infectious personality and cheeky observations have wowed audiences around the globe.

In 2006, Mark Forward made his first appearance at the prestigious Just for Laughs Festival, where he won the Homegrown Comic Competition. He also won the Canadian Comedy Award for Best New Comer. In 2008, Mark won his second Canadian Comedy Award for Best Writing on a Series (The Jon Dore Television Show) and in 2012 he won his third Canadian Comedy Award, this time for Best Taped Live Performance (The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson).  Mark can currently be seen as Mr. Leung on CBC’s Mr. D and is also a staff writer on the show.
