Lucky Jim Cuddy ticket buyers have chance for private meet and greet

October 20, 2014

Guelph, ON October 20, 2014 – On Sunday, November 2, the Blue Rodeo front man will bring his solo project, the Jim Cuddy Band, to the Royal City to perform on River Run Centre’s Main Stage. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Backing Cuddy will be Colin Cripps on guitar; Bazil Donovan on bass; Joel Anderson on drums; Anne Lindsay on violin; and Steve O’Connor on keyboards.

Anyone purchasing a ticket to his show by October 30th has a chance to win a private pre-show meet and greet with Jim Cuddy. Lucky winner, selected by random seat draw, will be contacted on October 31st.

Prolific songwriter and Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Jim Cuddy possesses one of the most recognized and loved voices in Canadian music. He’s been recording and releasing new songs to eager fans for over 25 years.

Cuddy has a total of three solo albums to his credit, including his most recent effort, 2011’s Skyscraper Soul. According to Jim, the seeds of the songs on Skyscraper Soul were borne out of one of the creative projects of  his wife, actress and writer Rena Polley. He was writing music to accompany her comedic short film, Four Sisters, and found that some of what he’d written didn’t fit the film. However, finding himself on a roll, he continued writing, and before long had enough material for an album.

“When I write songs for my solo material, the songs tend to be a lot more personal than what I write for Blue Rodeo,” says the seven-time Juno Award-winner. “I come in here and sit down with all of these instruments and work at building the ideas until a song emerges. Once I’ve demoed the track and played it for the band, we work on fleshing it out.”

One of the album highlights is “Everyone Watched The Wedding,” the record’s first single. Cuddy was inspired to write the tune when he – like so many others around the world – witnessed the nuptials of the now Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (affectionately known to most as just ‘William and Kate’).

“I’ve never been much of a royalist but this song is about the royal wedding,” Cuddy admits. “Something about this last wedding got me. When I started reading more about it I realized that there is something about it that is very inspiring. And this was truly a gift. This song just came out. I had come in to the studio to do something completely different and within half an hour I had this song completely sketched out and that doesn’t happen, usually there’s more work involved.”

Fans of Jim Cuddy’s incomparable song writing talent will not want to miss the chance to hear his evocative, personal lyrics performed live. Tickets for this performance start at $44 for adults and $42 for students and seniors. $5 eyeGO tickets are available for high school students with valid ID. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. Tickets are available at the River Run Box Office at 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca/the-jim-cuddy-band/
