Master illusionist Outerbridge brings Clockwork Mysteries show to stage

October 10, 2014

Guelph, ON  October 10, 2014– Ted Outerbridge has been called a master illusionist and the most successful magician working in Canada. This month the award-winning performer, who has been creating magic on stage since 1982, brings his high-energy act, titled OUTERBRIDGE – Clockwork Mysteries, to River Run Centre. This Main Stage performance takes place on Sunday, October 26 at 4 p.m. Mere days before Halloween, the timing is perfect to take in a creative, dynamic, mysterious magic show that is appropriate for adult and family audiences.

OUTERBRIDGE – Clockwork Mysteries features Ted Outerbridge and his partner – on stage and in life – Marion. In the show Ted and Marion enter a mysterious clock tower equipped with a variety of timekeeping devices. The Victorian time machine becomes the catalyst for Ted and Marion’s bizarre and fascinating race against time, and the audience is invited along for the ride. Each stop on the time machine journey becomes the setting for a new series of illusions that capture the audience’s undivided attention.

In OUTERBRIDGE – Clockwork Mysteries the performers fuse their revolutionary illusions with split-second artistry to hold viewers spellbound. The professionally orchestrated theatrical production features over 20 custom-designed illusions, as well as world-class lighting and set design. Because this is a journey through time, costume design is an essential component to the show. Ted’s Victorian-era costume includes a frock coat designed at the Shaw Festival. His medieval costume is a creation by legendary CBC costume designer, Peter de Castell. Ted’s Mirror Ball jacket, worn when the time machine makes a stop in the 1960s, is made from over 3,000 mirror tiles and weighs over 35 lbs. Through the course of the 90 minute performance, Marion dons a total of 18 different costumes. During one illusion Marion’s outfit changes in the blink of an eye, leaving audience members gasping in disbelief.

Mounting a performance of this scale and caliber requires a team, and the team behind this show is an impressive one. Lighting designer and director Alexandre Picotte is an accomplished professional who spends much of his time touring with Cirque du Soleil. Michel Otis is the show’s illusion technician. Like Picotte he has worked on several Cirque du Soleil productions as a prop master, set designer and head carpenter.  The show’s choreographer, Pattie Obey, has performed in Broadway musicals, films and on television. Creative consultant Lorna Wayne lends her artistic sensibility to the show, refining and enhancing the production.
