Matt Andersen and the Bona Fide debut Honest Man album at River Run February 27

February 11, 2016

GUELPH ON February 11, 2016 – One of Canada’s most soulful and celebrated performers will mark the release of a brand new album at River Run Centre when Matt Andersen and the Bona Fide take the stage on Saturday, February 27, at 8 p.m. The Main Stage performance is presented as part of the Richardson GMP Music Series.

A powerhouse performer and songwriter with a giant soul-filled voice, Andersen has built a formidable following the old-fashioned way – by touring worldwide and letting his reputation grow organically. He’s headlined major festivals, theatres and clubs throughout North America, Europe and Australia, sharing the stage with artists such as Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, Greg Allman, Randy Bachman, Little Feat and Serena Ryder.

“Some artists must be experienced live in order to get a true appreciation of their talent,” noted TorontoJazz.com reviewer Josh Grossman. “Matt Andersen is one of those artists.”

Just 24 hours before his River Run Centre performance, Andersen will mark the release of his seventh studio album, Honest Man, made up of 10 songs ranging from personal to political topics that showcase the New Brunswick songwriter’s rich, soulful voice and unique brand of blues and folk-inspired music. The True North Records release was produced in New York by the legendary Commissioner Gordon, whose credits include working with Quincy Jones, Santana, Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse.

Andersen’s many accolades include winning the 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, a 2013 European Blues Award for best solo or acoustic act, a trio of Maple Blues Awards including male vocalist of the year and a Juno nomination for best roots and traditional album.

Joining Andersen on stage will be the Bona Fide, featuring accomplished musicians Geoff Arsenault on drums, Steve Marriner on bass and harmonica and Chris Kirby on guitar and keyboards.

Songwriter Donovan Woods will open the show. While amassing a catalogue of acclaimed music of his own, Woods has worked with some of the top songwriters in North America and helped create two of the songs included on Honest Man.

Tickets to see Matt Andersen and the Bona Fide with opening act Donovan Woods start at $39 for adults and $37 for seniors. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID. Tickets can be purchased at River Run Centre box office, 35 Woolwich St. in Guelph, by calling 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca/matt-andersen.
