Canadian comedy mainstay brings laughs to River Run Centre Sunday, October 28

GUELPH, ON October 15, 2018 – It’s said that misery loves company. In the case of Canadian-born comic Jeremy Hotz, misery makes funny. One of the most original standup comedians working today, Hotz brings his astute brand of observational comedy to River Run Centre on Sunday, October 28, at 7 p.m. The Main Stage performance is presented as part of the GuelphToday.com Comedy Series.

Well known to comedy fans, Hotz has become a mainstay at Montreal’s famed Just For Laughs festival and starred in television comedy specials on Comedy Central, CBC and CTV. Hotz’s celebrated career has also seen him headline sold-out Canadian theatre tours and perform on The Late Show with David Letterman and Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

“Misery is Jeremy Hotz’s unofficial moniker,” the Montreal Gazette said in a review. “His torment will help make others relatively happy about their existences and leave them giggling in the process.”

Since his 1997 debut at Just For Laughs, Hotz has become a fixture at the annual comedy festival. His many performances have seen him chosen best performer by the Globe and Mail and best in fest by the Montreal Gazette. In addition to his Canadian successes, Hotz has headlined performances across the United States, Europe and Australia. In 2008, he was honoured with the Dave Broadfoot Comic Genius Award, the most prestigious award presented by the Canadian Comedy Awards.

Off the standup stage, Hotz served as a staff writer and performer on the Jon Stewart Show, appeared in the final season of HBO Canada’s Call Me Fitz and was a featured guest on the television series Jay Leno’s Garage. On the silver screen, he appeared in the feature films My Favorite Martian with Elizabeth Hurley and Speed 2 with Sandra Bullock.

Tickets to see Jeremy Hotz cost $59 for adults, $57 for seniors and students. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID. Tickets can be purchased at River Run Centre box office, 35 Woolwich St. in Guelph, by calling 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca/jeremy-hotz.
