Music from The Nutcracker opens the Wooly Kinderconcerts

November 7, 2014

Guelph, ON November 7, 2014 – The popular Wooly Kinderconcerts are set to return to River Run Centre for the 2014-2015 season. The series, which is aimed at preschool-aged children, kicks off with music from the seasonal favorite The Nutcracker on Saturday, November 22. There are three performances scheduled: 9:30 am, 10:30 am and 11:30 am in the Co-operators Hall. Each show is approximately 30 minutes long.

This season the Wooly Kinderconcerts introduce young children to the magic of classical music through abridged versions of famous operas and ballets. In the opening concert members of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra perform highlights and some of the most popular tunes from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker – to accent the story’s action as told by a narrator. The timing of The Nutcracker is perfect to get little ones and their families into the holiday spirit. Children will follow the story of heroine Clara, as she falls asleep on Christmas Eve with her newly received Nutcracker Doll in arms, and be swept into her dream world of Sugar Plum Fairies in the Land of Sweets.

Enthusiastic audience participation is always encouraged at these mini concerts. After each performance, little ones have an opportunity to see and touch the instruments, and ask questions of the musicians. The concerts make classical music fun and approachable, and plant the seeds for a lifelong appreciation of music.

Tickets for the Kinderconcerts are $14 for adults, and $11 for children. $5 eyeGO  are available for high school students with valid ID. Please note that everyone must have a ticket to enter the theatre, including children and infants. Each child must have adult accompaniment. Tickets are available at the River Run Centre box office at 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca/the-nutcracker-tchaikovsky/
