GUELPH, ON January 5, 2017 – Time away from music can offer a fresh perspective. That was certainly the case for country artist Lee Ann Womack, who took a seven-year break from recording before the release of her most recent album, The Way I’m Livin’.

“Getting away from the business allowed me to think more creatively,” Womack says. “It was very freeing to stop watching what was going on on Music Row in Nashville and just listen to my inner creative voice.”

After earning Grammy nominations for The Way I’m Livin’ in two consecutive years – Best Country Album in 2015 and Best Solo Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song in 2016 – Womack will kick off 2017 with a tour that brings her to southern Ontario.

She will perform at River Run Centre in Guelph on Thursday, January 19, at 8 p.m. The Main Stage performance is presented as part of the Richardson GMP Music Series.

A Grammy and Country Music Association award winner, Womack is described as possessing vocal purity that rivals Dolly Parton and emotion equalling Emmylou Harris. The songs on her eight solo recordings capture the essence of human experience through themes of pain, joy and desire.

“I always tell people, you can expect some real country music,” Womack says of her upcoming River Run Centre performance. “If you miss that kind of music, we have it and we’ll deliver it.”

Womack’s talents have made her the duet partner of choice for artists including Alan Jackson, George Strait and Buddy Miller. Among the many talented performers she’s shared the stage with, Womack says the legendary Willie Nelson stands out.

“People all over the world know exactly who he is when they see him or hear his voice,” she says. “He’s an American treasure and I’m very lucky to have been able to record duets with him and tour with him and call him a friend.”

After selling millions of albums, singing for presidents and winning countless accolades, Womack says making music is what remains most satisfying.

“Believe it or not, I’m happiest and most fulfilled when I’m actually making music,” she says. “Either in the studio or with my amazing road band. There’s nothing like the feeling that brings, not even winning awards can top that.”

Tickets to see Lee Ann Womack cost $52 for adults, $50 for seniors and students. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID.
