River Run announces 20th Anniversary Season

Guelph, ON May 24, 2017 – River Run Centre launched its 2017-18 season of professional entertainment today at a public announcement and celebration.

“This season marks a milestone, as the River Run Centre celebrates its 20th Anniversary on October 4, 2017,” said General Manager of Culture, Tourism and Community Investment Danna Evans. River Run Manager Bill Nuhn added that the season is packed with “your favorites old and new, with acts from near and far.” They also noted the VIP experience on a number of shows, perks for In the Spotlight subscribers, and the savings and benefits for those who PACK-IT-UP and purchase tickets to four or more shows.

Carroll Baker performed as part of the opening night gala on October 4, 1997, and it is fitting that Canada’s “First Lady of Country Music” returns to the stage at River Run Centre on October 4, 2017 to help mark 20 years of world-class entertainment. Join us after the performance in Canada Company Hall to celebrate our 20th Anniversary.

The Miijidaa Family Series features music, magical theatre and acrobats. Back by popular demand Mini Pop Kids will have even Mom and Dad dancing to family friendly versions of today’s hits and seasonal classics December 16. Take a magical journey into the colourful underwater world of Bubblelandia in B – The Underwater Bubble Show January 6. The Peking Acrobats mesmerize audiences with their awe-inspiring acrobatic feats February 24. Scrap Arts Music features original music performed on instruments created from recycled materials March 24.

The Richardson GMP Music Series offers a wide variety of musical acts. The series opens on October 22 with one of Canada’s finest jazz singers Emilie-Claire Barlow. Sons of Serendip perform classically infused pop and holiday favourites December 17. Mixing the energy of rock ‘n’ roll with traditional Celtic folklore, dance and humour, Tartan Terrors take the stage January 25. One of Canada’s most popular and enduring bands Cowboy Junkies February 1. Gord Bamford, Canada’s king of country, February 4. February 23 promises an unforgettable roots, blues and R&B double bill with Digging Roots and Dione Taylor. Canadian music icon Tom Cochrane with Red Rider will perform March 18. Kim Mitchell closes the series with countless favourites and newly recorded tracks April 8.

Wooly Kinderconcerts introduce children aged five and under to the rich variety of instruments and sounds of the symphony with members of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra. The Saturday morning series includes The Nutcracker, November 25, Hansel, Gretel and the Witch, February 3 and Cinderella April 7.

RBC Showcase Series features a wide range of entertainment, from mind-reading and theatre to ballet, Indian and Irish dance. Spidey performs his much-anticipated mind-reading show Make Believe-Magic of Your Mind October 27. Award winning drama Jake’s Gift tells the story behind one soldier’s sacrifice November 10. A Passage to Bollywood is a vibrant musical that transports audiences into the world of Indian culture December 2. Canada’s Ballet Jörgen brings the magical tale of Russian Grand Dutchess Anastasia to the stage January 21. March 23, be whisked away to the Emerald Isle with Rhythm of the Dance.

Talented Canadian singer-songwriters headline intimate performances as part of the Borealis Music Series. Matt Zaddy’s songs tell personal stories of his journey through life and music October 27. November 24 Andrew Collins Trio performs music inspired by bluegrass, jazz, swing and blues traditions. Returning this season for two performances, Guelph songstresses Jude Vadala, Katherine Wheatley and Tannis Slimmon welcome winter in Boreal’s Songs for a Snowy Season December 1 and 2. Guelph based Preetam Sengupta’s music features storytelling with a glint of hope and touch of melancholy February 2.Canadian jazz singer-songwriter Micah Barnes will close the series April 6.

GuelphToday.com Comedy Series showcases stand-up comedy favourites. Spend an evening with the “King of Canadian Comedy!” Mike MacDonald October 20. One of the world’s most recognized and adored comedians Louie Anderson February 8. Now in its 15th year touring Ontario, The Just for Laughs Road Show offers the perfect way to sample some of the festival’s funniest stand-up acts on April 5. April 27 Roseanne Barr, superstar of the stand-up stage closes the series and season.
