River Run Centre announces a riveting 2019-2020 Season

Great entertainment comes to Guelph!

Guelph, ON May 28, 2019 – River Run Centre launches its 2019-2020 season of professional entertainment with a lineup that promises something for everyone and outstanding performances and artistry. The programming is supported by Richardson GMP, the new Season Sponsor, and funded in part by the Government of Canada.

The River Run Centre is also excited to announce a new Under 30 price on River Run Presents shows, supported by TD Bank Group. “We want to make sure that our patrons have access to the performing arts at every stage of life. The new Under 30 ticket price makes it easier for students and young professionals to make the arts a regular part of their lives” says Nuhn.

The GuelphToday.com Comedy Series kicks off the season with Howie Mandel on November 3, a comedy legend who has been a force in show business for more than 30 years. On January 30, improv icon Colin Mochrie pairs up with master hypnotist Asad Mecci for an evening of “Hyprov,” improv under hypnosis. Shaun Majumder returns on February 21, bringing his unique perspective to comedy from a stand-up star. And always a favourite, The Just for Laughs Road Show brings a sampling of the famed comedy festival’s funniest stand-up acts on April 23.

An anchor of the River Run Centre season, the Guelph Infiniti Music Series boasts a new sponsor, Guelph Infiniti, who proudly supports the series showcasing the very best music from across Canada. First in the series to take the stage on November 9, Countermeasure brings their smooth harmonies and infectious energy for a next-level a cappella experience. Headlining the series is music legend Burton Cummings in an intimate solo appearance on November 29. The Men of the Deeps: Christmas in the Mine kicks off the holiday season on November 30 with a heartfelt performance by the coal miners choir. On December 14, A Next Generation Leahy Christmas offers audiences an evening of youthful and joyful Celtic music. In the new year on January 19, 54·40 rocks the stage performing from their catalogue of classics. Bringing a new twist on country traditions, Meghan Patrick promises to play all her chart topping hits. Two of Canada’s most talented voices, Sarah Slean and Hawksley Workman, take the stage together to perform each other’s music on March 1. And the award winning Legendary Downchild Blues Band closes out the series on March 27 with an evening of infectious, soulful sound.

With a favourite new local restaurant opening up just down the road, Park Grocery offers their support for the Park Grocery Family Series, promising to bring audiences of all ages great entertainment. Share the captivating tale of Jungle Book with the kids in your life on January 5 with the new theatrical adaptation of stories by Rudyard Kipling. On February 12, crime-biting sensation serves up a taste of adventure in Dog Man: The Musical, based on the best-selling book series by Dav Pikey. The stage sparkles with mind-bending magic on March 10 when Masters of Illusion makes a stop in Guelph. And share the love of another treasured tale with the theatrical production of Charlotte’s Web on April 8.

A favourite among many, the Borealis Music Series showcases intimate performances by Canada’s most talented singer-songwriters. The Abrams bring their rock n’ roll energy and fresh perspective to country music on November 8. Award winning Amanda Rheaume performs her unparalleled blend of folk, country and pop on November 28. An annual tradition for many, Boreal’s Songs for a Snowy Season is back on December 20 and 21. The contemporary bluegrass sound of The Slocan Ramblers brings raucous energy and outstanding songwriting on January 17. Not to be missed, the famed Survivorman Les Stroud shares a nature-first musical message on February 21.

Back for a second season, the Magic Music Now Series brings the best indie rock and rising stars to Guelph. The series kicks off with an energetic live performance by Hollerado on November 13 and on February 28, The Trews bring their distinctive sound to the stage. More from the Magic Music Now Series will be announced throughout the season, bringing what’s hot right now to Guelph.

Also in its second season, Miijidaa Life Stories uncovers the stories behind leading voices in the performing arts. On November 5, Governor General Award winner Murray McLauchlan tells tales from his more than 30-year career. Celebrated troubadour, Valdy, reveals all on January 22 from more than 50 years of touring. On March 25, Susan Aglukark provides a window into the culture of Canada’s Northern Communities.

Now running for more than 10 years, the Wooly Kinderconcerts are a favourite family tradition. With members of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra bringing stories to life with music by famous composers, Wooly Kinderconcerts are a great way to introduce children to the performing arts. Join us for The Nutcracker, The Barber of Seville and The Adventures of Robin Hood and Ms Marian on November 16, February 1 and March 28 respectively.

Kicking off the Showcase Series, memorable musical scores come to life on December 13 with A Whole New World: The Musical Magic of Alan Menken.  Canada’s Ballet Jörgen joins us on January 12, re-envisioning a classic tale in the highly anticipated new production of Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet™. Mastering the mysteries of the mind, The Evasons mesmerize audiences with their gifts of “second sight” on April 16.
