Shaun Majumder of This Hour Has 22 Minutes kicks off River Run’s comedy series

October 3, 2014

Guelph, ON October 3, 2014 – Fans of funnyman Shaun Majumder will have the chance to take in the proud Newfoundlander’s stand-up performance live at River Run Centre on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 8:00 p.m.  His Main Stage appearance officially launches River Run’s 2014 – 2015 Guelph Infiniti Comedy Series.

A Gemini award-winning actor and comedian, Majumder made his way into millions of Canadian hearts and homes via the small screen on the venerable CBC comedy institution, This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Initially hired as a writer for the show, Majumder was quickly granted the opportunity to move out from behind his writer’s desk and perform on screen. Majumder plays a host of characters on the sketch comedy program, but is perhaps best known for his creation ‘Raj Binder’, a sweet but sweaty Indian reporter whose awkward interviews incite laughter.

Beyond This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Majumder boasts an impressive resume, having appeared in such films as Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, The Ladies Man, Pushing Tin and Purpose. His television career includes roles on hit series such as 24, The Firm, Detroit 1-8-7, Less Than Kind and Cedric the Entertainer Presents. He’s a crowd favourite at the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival, and has hosted the television series of the same name for three seasons.

One of Majumder’s latest projects was a venture in economic development. The comedian undertook a social enterprise to try to raise the profile of his hometown of Burlington, Newfoundland by converting the sparsely populated outpost into a tourist destination. Plans include an eco-luxury lodge, outdoor adventure activities and capacity building programs for local businesses. While the accompanying reality television show recently wrapped after its second season on W Network, it is unlikely Majumder will stop championing his hometown’s potential any time soon.

Ticketholders at the River Run Centre’s engagement can look forward to an entertaining evening of laughs with one of the most talented and well-loved Canadians in the entertainment industry. As Jim Day of PEI’s The Guardian newspaper observed; “the very funny man from Newfoundland continues to expand his entertainment resume with no plans on easing up when it comes to versatility and variety.”
