Talented Guelph youth in the spotlight at River Run

Mentorship program for students culminates in two performances

April 24, 2015, Guelph, ON – Guelph’s talented youth perform two different shows in Co-operators Hall at River Run Centre on May 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. The shows are part of MusicWorks|StageWorks, a mentorship program presented by River Run Centre in partnership with Guelph Youth Council and sponsored by TD Canada Trust. Now in its third year, the program offers youth real-life experience in putting on a professional-style show, from concept development to performance. The two-evening performances showcase 28 acts, including singers, actors, dancers, guitarists, pianists and various bands.

Members of River Run’s technical and programming staff have been working with the participants in preparation for the shows.  As part of the process, the performers learn the essential elements of producing a show, such as, staging, flow, timing, transitions and emceeing.

“Once again, we are thrilled with the response we’ve received from youth in Guelph,” says Danna Evans, Manager of Theatres and Civic Events for the City of Guelph.  “Over 70 performers and over 30 Youth Council members are involved in this year’s mentorship program.”

“Earlier this month, the City of Guelph received Play Works’ gold designation which recognized us as one of Ontario’s most youth friendly cities,” shared Jenn Bucci, Guelph’s Youth Services Coordinator.  “This program is a wonderful example of how our city supports its youth community.”

Admission is free to each performance. Seating is general and on a first come basis. For more information visit riverrun.ca/musicworksstageworks-2015-05-05
