The Abrams. Where new sounds meets musical tradition

October 24, 2019

Acclaimed brothers John and James Abrams perform in Guelph

GUELPH, ON October 24, 2019 – From roots in bluegrass and gospel music, fourth-generation musicians John and James Abrams take their family business to a new level with a rock n’ roll flair. The Abrams entertain at River Run Centre on Friday, November 8, at 8 p.m. The Co-operators Hall performance is presented as part of the Borealis Music Series.

The Abrams’ acclaimed live performances feature original songs alongside the brothers’ unique takes on Americana and country music classics. The Kingston-based duo is performing in support of its new album, Reminder, released on Warner Music Canada in September.

“A down-to-earth blend of fiddle, acoustic guitar, banjo and sweet brotherly harmonies,” the Ottawa Citizen says of The Abrams.

While only in their mid 20s, the Abrams have been performing for more than 15 years, headlining Canadian and US tours, four tours of the United Kingdom and two European tours. The Abrams are the youngest artists ever to perform at Nashville’s famed Grand Ole Opry, taking the stage in 2005 at the ages of 12 and 15.

In September, The Abrams celebrated the release of their latest Warner Music Canada recording, Reminder, an eclectic collection of songs inspired by roots and country music. The album is a followup to the brothers’ major label debut, the self-tiled The Abrams, which included the Top 40 Canadian country single Fine.

In addition to performances at top music festivals across Canada – including Guelph’s Hillside Festival, Big Valley Jamboree and the Winnipeg Folk Festival – The Abrams have been welcomed as an opening act by artists including The Dixie Chicks, Feist, America, Tom Cochrane and Mickey Hart of The Grateful Dead.

Tickets to see The Abrams cost $35 for adults, $33 for seniors and $25 for those under 30. Tickets can be purchased at River Run Centre box office, 35 Woolwich St. in Guelph, by calling 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca/the-abrams.

The Abrams is presented by River Run Centre as part of the Borealis Music Series and sponsored by Country 106.7. River Run Centre is funded in part by the Government of Canada and gratefully acknowledges 2019-2020 season sponsor, Richardson GMP.
