They’ll know Cinderella, but who’s Rossini? Children find out at next Wooly Kinderconcert.

March 30, 2015

Guelph, ON March 30, 2015 – Rossini’s operatic interpretation of the classic fairy tale, Cinderella, provides the inspiration for the final performance of River Run Centre’s Wooly Kinderconcerts this season. These informal and interactive concerts, designed for preschool children, provide a memorable introduction to classical music and the instruments of the orchestra. There are three performances scheduled for the morning of Saturday, April 11 at 9:30am, 10:30am, and 11:30 am in the Co-operators Hall. Each show is approximately 40 minutes long.

The theme for the series this season focused on introducing children to famous operas and ballets. On April 11th children will experience the story of Cinderella, as told through music by the famous Italian opera composer Gioachino Antonio Rossini (1792-1868). Members of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra perform selected pieces while a narrator tells the story. Rossini’s opera (titled La Cenerentola in its original Italian) strays from the fairy tale in some of the details, but the end result is the same: the lowly title character’s goodness and inner beauty are recognized. Cinderella triumphs: despite the efforts of her stepfather and spoiled sisters to keep her working as a maid, she wins the heart of a royal prince.

Enthusiastic audience participation is always encouraged at the Wooly Kinderconcerts. After the performance, the children have an opportunity to see and touch the instruments, and ask questions of the musicians. The concerts are intended to plant the seeds for a lifelong appreciation of music.

Tickets for the Kinderconcerts are $14 for adults and $11 for children. $5 eyeGO tickets are available for high school students with valid ID.  Please note that everyone must have a ticket to enter the theatre, including children and infants. Each child must have adult accompaniment. Tickets are available at the River Run Box Office at 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca/cinderella-rossini
