Guelph Chamber Choir Messiah

This performance is going ahead as scheduled.

Presented by Guelph Chamber Choir:

Celebrate the Christmas season with Handel’s Messiah, featuring four outstanding soloists and the Guelph Chamber Choir accompanied by an orchestra of period instruments, in an finely honed performance of this perennial favourite.

Handel’s Messiah speaks to us not only for its profound musical qualities, but also as a spiritual and dramatic expression of the values of peace and goodwill that we all share at this time of year. The tradition of attending performances of Handel’s Messiah has become a hallmark of Christmas celebrations and a welcome step away from the bustle of the season, to pause for an evening of contemplation, enjoyment and beauty.

This year’s performance features some of Canada’s finest soloists. Soprano Charlene Pauls has appeared on the concert stage with major orchestras across Canada and internationally. She currently teaches voice at St Michael’s Choir School in Toronto and has recently become the new Artistic Director of the London Pro Musica Choir. She has been praised as producing notes “like finely cut jewels.”

Montreal-based mezzo soprano Maude Brunet is known for her warm, rich tone and expressive musicality. A highly sought-after singer, performing with many of Canada’s most prestigious ensembles, her voice was once described as having “an alluring black coffee colour.”

Juno award winning tenor John Tessier has garnered international attention for the beauty and honesty of his voice, a refined style, and artistic versatility. He has worked with many of the most notable musicians of our day including Plácido Domingo, Charles Dutoit, Bryn Terfel, Pinchas Zukerman, Itzhak Perlman, and Deborah Voigt. “John Tessier’s light, agile voice, with its effortless top register radiates elegance.”

Bass baritone Daniel Lichtiis firmly established as one of Canada’s most distinguished singers. He has recently celebrated 40 years on the international stage and is noted as “a dramatic singer of conviction, passion, tenderness, pathos, and power with a voice that seems coated with pure silk.”
