Pre-Information for Teachers
These classic tales, written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd, are staples in libraries, classrooms and at bedtimes the world over. They serve as the foundation for this production from the inspired puppeteers of Nova Scotia’s Mermaid Theatre. The troupe uses their larger-than-life creatures and sets, movement, music, light and signature magic to bring these beloved stories to life.
Questions / Suggested Discussion
- What are the two different kinds of puppets used in this show? (‘rod’ puppets and more traditional ‘table-top’ puppets)
- How do the puppets glow? Why can’t you see the actors moving the puppets? (Black lights make fluorescent things glow in the dark, while making black and dark objects nearly invisible.)
- Sometimes the puppets need two actors to move. Sometimes actors moved the scenery. Look for these things during the performance.
