Triumph and pride, tragedy and sorrow. The paradox of remembrance, reflected in the responses of both Haydn and Beethoven to Napoleon’s threat of war, shows us that the story of war is never a simple one. One hundred years after World War I, the music on this program still calls for peace.

David Murray, historian and former Dean of the College of Arts, University of Guelph, speaks on the conflict that was to end all war.
