Virtuoso guitarist brings internationally inspired music to River Run Centre March 23

GUELPH, ON March 7, 2019 – Jesse Cook has travelled the world seeking sounds that resonate and mastered a fusion of musical styles. The Juno Award-winning guitar virtuoso brings an internationally inspired performance to River Run Centre on Saturday, March 23, at 8 p.m. The Main Stage performance is presented as part of the Richardson GMP Music Series.

A master of genres including flamenco, classical, rumba, world beat, pop, blues and jazz, Cook is known for international recordings created in exotic locations. The Toronto-raised musician produced music in seven countries on three continents, collaborating with local artists each step of the way. Cook’s 10th and most recent recording, Beyond Borders (2017), continues his international journey, featuring 12 songs that defy cultural and geographic boundaries.

“I like music that provides a common ground for different traditions,” Cook says. “A space where music from all historical eras and parts of the world can mingle.”

Prior to Beyond Borders, Cook released One World (2015), an album he conceived in his home studio. One World includes 11 instrumental tracks that meld traditional musical instruments from around the globe with computer-generated sounds.

“Over the years, I’ve taken my music and tried to cross-pollinate it with music from different parts of the world,” Cook says. “If you pull your focus back far enough, you start to see all music as being branches of the same tree. They’re all connected to the same trunk.”

Cook has earned 11 Juno Award nominations during his 25-year career, taking home the Best Global Album Juno for his recording Free Fall in 2001. The celebrated Canadian artist promises to showcase his trademark technical prowess during his River Run Centre performance.

A few tickets for Jesse Cook are still available: $59 for adults, $57 for seniors and students. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID.
