Award-Winning Roots Musician Guy Davis Delivers Authentic American Blues

January 31, 2024

Building community and compassion through music, worldwide

GUELPH, ON January 31, 2024 – Experience authentic American blues with Guy Davis in River Run Centre’s Studio Theatre on Thursday, February 22 at 8 p.m. The performance is part of the Borealis Music Series, featuring a lineup of singers, songwriters, and storytellers.

Guy Davis is a musician, actor, author, and songwriter. He is a two-time Grammy nominee for Best Traditional Blues Album for Be Ready When I Call You in 2021 and Sonny and Brownie’s Last Train in 2017. With a background in theatre, he uses a blend of roots and blues, folk, rock, rap, and spoken word to address the frustrations of social injustice and common life struggles. His background in theater adds to his lyrical storytelling, which is pronounced in his songs “God’s Gonna Make Things Over” about the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, “Welcome to My World,” and “Got Your Letter In My Pocket.”

A multi-talented musician and self-taught Renaissance man, Guy Davis sings, plays six- and 12-string guitar, five-string banjo, harmonica, and didgeridoo. He performs around the world and everywhere he goes, he uses music to help bring people together. Beyond sharing his singing and songwriting, he uses music to turn strangers into friends.

Guy Davis strives to build that connection with audiences outside of performance theatres as well. He has completed residency programs for the Lincoln Center Institute, the Kennedy Center, the State Theatre in New Jersey, and works with “Young Audiences of NJ,” delivering classroom workshops and assembly programs across the US and Canada for elementary, high school, and college students. At River Run Centre, in addition to his public performance on February 22, Guy Davis is also booked as part of Linamar for the Performing Arts. Students in Grades 5 and 6 have the opportunity to see this incredible artist perform live.

Guy Davis has a deep love of the history of the blues and the voices of the greats echo throughout his performance. This will be an exceptional show for fans of authentic American blues and those hoping to hear a high-calibre musician of the genre.

Tickets to Guy Davis are $30 for adults, $28 for patrons over 60, and $25 for those under 30 years old. Tickets to this performance are also available for Sliding Scale pricing, offered at $20 or $10 each.
