Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy share in joy of the season at River Run Centre Friday, December 16

GUELPH, ON December 2, 2016 – World-class fiddle music will warm up the holidays at River Run Centre when acclaimed performers Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy play to a sold-out show on Friday, December 16, at 8 p.m. The Main Stage performance is presented as part of the Richardson GMP Music Series and is sponsored by Smith Valeriote Law Firm LLP.

MacMaster and Leahy are musicians with their hearts firmly rooted in East Coast traditions, especially during the holidays. In October, the couple released the album A Celtic Family Christmas, a collection of songs celebrating the joy of the season and treasured moments with family. The 11-track recording includes God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Little Drummer Boy and White Christmas, among other seasonal classics.

“Music has always been and always should be an important part of the season,” McMaster says. “For Donnell and I, Christmas has always given us beautiful moments and memories.”

An Order of Canada recipient, MacMaster’s career spans 25 years and 11 albums. She is a two-time Juno Award winner, 11-time East Coast Music Award winner and Grammy Award nominee. MacMaster’s musical collaborations include work with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Alison Krauss, Jesse Cook and Bela Fleck.

Best known as leader of the legendary Celtic group that bears his family name, Leahy is recognized as among the best Celtic fiddle players in the world. His family band, Leahy, is the winner of three Juno Awards. Married in 2002, MacMaster and Leahy are the parents of six children.
