Guelph Symphony Orchestra performs final Kinderconcert of the season
GUELPH, ON February 26, 2026 — The third and final Kinderconcert this season is based on a classic African folktale that explores the origin of the world and its natural elements. Designed for curious kids five and under, Why the Sun and the Moon Live in the Sky is a 30-minute show that takes place in River Run Centre’s Studio Theatre on Saturday, March 28 at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 11:30 a.m.
River Run’s Park Eatery Kinderconcerts are performed by members of Guelph Symphony Orchestra (GSO) who bring delightful narratives to life. In this piece, the tale is accompanied with music by Florence Price, the first African American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer. Price often used the music of the African American church as material for her arrangements. This composition is a wonderful pairing for the story “Why the Sun and the Moon Live in the Sky.”
In this allegorical tale, the Sun has grown tired of having to cross a bridge to visit his friend, Water. But now, Moon’s wedding invitation changes everything. How do the sun and moon end up in the sky? Young audiences will find out while enjoying classical music and lively storytelling.
This season’s Kinderconcerts are narrated by Kween, a multi-talented performer and artist who passionately connects with the young audience, adding an exciting layer of enchantment to the show.
Parents and young audiences alike will appreciate both the entertainment and interaction that Kinderconcerts offer. Children are encouraged to sit close to the musicians during the performance for an immersive experience. After the show, all the kids in the audience are invited to meet the performers and explore the instruments.
Park Eatery Kinderconcerts are generously sponsored by Series Sponsor Park Eatery, with support from Season Sponsor Richardson Wealth and the Government of Canada.
Tickets to Why the Sun and the Moon Live in the Sky are $15 for adults, $13 for patrons over 60 or under 30 years old, and $11 for children 14 and under, including infants. These performances typically sell out, so interested parents are encouraged to book tickets soon.
