Classical music brings Sleeping Beauty to life

November 9, 2018

Members of Guelph Symphony Orchestra perform three kid-friendly concerts at River Run Centre November 24

GUELPH, ON November 9, 2018 – The classic fairytale comes to life through music and storytelling when members of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra perform Sleeping Beauty at River Run Centre on Saturday, November 24, at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The kid-friendly performances are presented in Co-operators Hall as part of the Wooly Kinderconcerts series.

Wooly Kinderconcerts introduce children aged five and under to the rich variety of instruments and sounds of the symphony. Members of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra play samplings of works by great composers, which provide the soundtrack to fun, interactive stories. Kinderconcerts are hands-on experiences kids learn from and remember, with audience participation highly encouraged.

Set in a magical fairy kingdom, Sleeping Beauty tells the story of a princess named Aurora, who is born to a wonderful king and queen. When a wicked fairy named Carabosse isn’t invited to the celebration of Aurora’s birth, Carabosse sets a powerful spell in motion that can only be broken by a prince.

Featuring flute, violin, viola and cello, Sleeping Beauty is set to a beautiful score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The performance explores the concept of rhythm through clapping, tapping, marching, galloping and swaying.

Tickets to see Sleeping Beauty cost $15 for adults, $13 for students and seniors, and $11 for children 14 and under. $5 eyeGO tickets are available to high school students with valid ID. Please note that everyone attending this performance must have a ticket, including infants and children. Tickets can be purchased at River Run Centre box office, 35 Woolwich St. in Guelph, by calling 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca/sleeping-beauty-2.

Presented by River Run Centre, Sleeping Beauty is part of the Wooly Kinderconcert Series. River Run Centre is funded in part by the Government of Canada and gratefully acknowledges our 2018-2019 season sponsor, The Co-operators.
