Celebrated children’s characters come to life at River Run Centre April 2

GUELPH, ON March 15, 2017 – Mo Willems beloved children’s characters will come to life on stage when the vaudevillian musical romp Elephant and Piggie’s We Are in a Play! arrives at River Run Centre on Sunday, April 2, at 2 p.m. The Main Stage performance is presented as part of the Miijidaa Family Series.

Elephant Gerald is lumbering and prone to melancholy. Piggie is perky, smiley and full of fun. Total opposites? No way! Just like in Willems’s celebrated children’s books, Gerald and Piggie are best friends.

“Elephant and Piggie enthusiasts will enjoy the stellar production,” DC Theatre Scene said in a review of Elephant and Piggie’s We Are in a Play!

In the stage production of Elephant and Piggie’s We Are in a Play!, Gerald and Piggie sing and dance their way through plenty of pachydermal peril and swiney suspense. The pair face fundamental childhood questions: Should you share your ice cream? How can two friends play with one toy? And what do you wear to a fancy pool costume party? Backed by nutty back-up singers, The Squirrelles, Gerald and Piggie get the audience involved in their hijinks.

Featuring a script and lyrics by Willems, direction by Jerry Whiddon, music by Deborah Wicks La Puma and choreography by Jessica Hartman, Elephant and Piggie’s We Are in a Play! is a tale that stays true to Willems’ classic children’s books. Commissioned by the Kennedy Center, it’s a fun-filled musical experience that promises fun for kids of all ages.
