Founding member of Great Big Sea performs at River Run Centre November 4

GUELPH, ON October 21, 2016 – Séan McCann won over audiences from coast to coast and around the world as a founding member of the award-winning East Coast band Great Big Sea. Today, McCann is using his music as a means to change lives for the better.

The award-winning Newfoundland-born artist will take the stage in Guelph on Friday, November 4, at 8 p.m. when River Run Centre presents An Evening with Séan McCann of Great Big Sea. The Co-operators Hall performance is part of the centre’s Borealis Music Series.

McCann’s recent music has seen him charting his own course with a new sound, while also breaking his silence about past addiction and abuse issues. In 2014, McCann decided to leave Great Big Sea to focus on well-being and healing. In his life after the band, he’s lived by the motto “help your self,” which is also the title of his first post-Great Big Sea album.

Released in 2014 and produced by Joel Plaskett, Help Your Self includes songs that tell the story of an individual facing personal demons and ultimately overcoming them.

“Surprisingly different musically from anything McCann has been involved with before,” the CBC’s Bob Mersereau said of the record. “Rock and songwriter tunes throughout.”

McCann’s musical journey continues with his most recent recording, You Know I Love You, an uplifting collection of songs about love and music. His River Run Centre performance will feature a combination of original songs and stories designed to inspire and influence positive change.

Also appearing during McCann’s November 4 show will be Chris Murphy. An Ontario-born singer-songwriter, Murphy’s voice has been compared to artists as diverse as Stan Rogers and Steven Page.
