Raine Hamilton String Trio brings ethereal sound to River Run Centre, February 6
GUELPH, ON January 23, 2019 – Featuring violin, guitar, cello and double bass, Raine Hamilton’s music has been described as “acoustic chamber folk with an otherworldly edge.” Experience the power of Hamilton’s ethereal voice and outstanding songwriting when the Raine Hamilton String Trio performs at River Run Centre on Wednesday, February 6, at 8 p.m. The Co-operators Hall performance is presented as part of the Borealis Music Series.
Released in 2018, Hamilton’s second full-length album, Night Sky, features her outstanding talents on vocals, violin and guitar at the forefront of powerful and relatable songs written in both English and French. Night Sky’s 10 tracks balance between the earthly and otherworldly, reaching into space Hamilton describes as “just beyond.” Hamilton released her debut full-length album, Past Your Past, to critical acclaim in 2015.
“Prairie songstress Raine Hamilton takes the stage with humour and strength,” MyToba said in a review.
Based in Winnipeg, Hamilton has toured from coast to coast. Her musical travels include appearances at festivals across the country, as well as three performances with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Among Hamilton’s most memorable shows was a 2017 “Cave Concert” in Canmore, Alberta, where she performed 10 stories underground in the cathedral-sized “Grand Gallery” inside Rat’s Nest Cave.
Renowned as a charming and funny storyteller, Hamilton believes music is for everyone. An experienced educator, she offers workshops in songwriting and fiddle tune writing. She is also well-known for her work to make live music accessible to the deaf community through sign language interpretation.
Hamilton is joined on stage at River Run Centre by her string trio bandmates Natanielle Felicitas on cello and Quintin Bart on double bass.
Raine Hamilton String Trio is presented by River Run Centre as part of the Borealis Music Series, which also receives funding support from the Ontario Arts Council and the SOCAN Foundation. River Run Centre is funded in part by the Government of Canada and gratefully acknowledges our 2018-2019 season sponsor, The Co-operators.
