Rock God brings his rabble-rousing musical storytelling extravaganza to River Run
GUELPH, ON October 7, 2025 — In addition to his years touring and recording with Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Bruce Springsteen, and others, guitar master Tom Morello has developed a fearless knack for his own musical storytelling. For the first time, he brings his exceptional one-man show to River Run Centre. Part of Sleeman-Spring Mill Music Series, this show is selling fast! Tom Morello: A Night of Stories & Music, on the Main Stage on Sunday, October 26 at 7 p.m.
It is rare to find someone equally passionate about music and politics, but that is precisely how Tom Morello would describe himself. Part freedom fighter and American renegade, part guitar virtuoso and creative storyteller — he impressively balances it all. What is even more impressive was Morello’s restraint during his years on hiatus from Rage Against the Machine, playing in the apolitical Audioslave, when he had to put one half of his passion and focus to the side. As a result, he created his solo project during this time, The Nightwatchman, as a musical outlet for his political views.
Morello describes this alter-ego, The Nightwatchman, as “the black Robin Hood of 21st century music” and “a reaction against illicit wars, a reaction against first strikes, torture, secret prisons, spying illegally on American citizens. It’s a reaction against war crimes, and it’s a reaction against a few corporations that grow rich [off] this illicit war while people beg for food in the city streets.”
As The Nightwatchman, Morello produced four studio albums between 2007-2011. He released his most recent single, “Pretend You Remember Me,” in 2025, under his own name. An anti-ICE protest, it has the rocker standing up for American immigrants, tracing political talking points to the impact on abducted people and their families.
Tom Morello’s haunting vocal melodies are a perfect match for his heartfelt political truth-telling. They are coupled with his creative guitar style, which incorporates feedback noise, unconventional picking, and tapping, all of which are on full display in this impressive solo show.
